Ennui

Well this is anything but ennui! To me his expression says he's a bit more lost in contemplation rather than bored.

The dude's portrait has a nice quality about it. Your colour palette is lovely, I enjoy quality of your linework as well.

The fleur-de-lis are a nice touch... I'd knock some of them back into the shadow a bit more though, as they don't really look to be part of the wallpaper at the moment.

I agree with Heather about knocking the pattern back a bit in the shadows.

I also really enjoy the thick brushes you use in your backgrounds, it adds a lovely tactileness which is a great compliment to the clean vector block colours.

I think you've done a wonderful job of capturing a weariness/dissatisfaction - I definitely got that feeling even before I learned what 'ennui' meant. Reminds me of lots of young whippersnappers I see looking bored hanging around the mall - I think you've captured that whole "there's a world of pain and suffering in my teenage life going on but quite frankly, i can't be bothered with it at the moment, I'd rather stand here and look emo".

Perhaps the linework in the young fellows jacket and clothing could be a bit finer, it looks a bit heavy compared to the delicacy of the face.

Really nice work Damien, well done!
